The simultaneous presence of a bicarotid trunk and a retroesophageal right subclavian artery: a case report

چکیده
Many variations exist in the branching pattern of the aortic arch. One variation exists in which there is a common origin of the carotid arteries, known as a bicarotid trunk, coexisting with a retroesophageal right subclavian artery. This anomaly is associated with a right non-recurrent laryngeal nerve. Aortic arch anomalies are clinically applicable to the fields of anatomy, radiology, general medical practice, as well as thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Here, we report a case of an uncommon branching pattern of the aortic arch identified during anatomical dissection and supported by antemortem diagnostic imaging. The anatomical variant was discovered in an 89year-old Caucasian male during a routine anatomical dissection and was characterized by a bicarotid arterial trunk, left subclavian artery, followed by a retroesophageal right subclavian artery. Additionally, a right non-recurrent inferior laryngeal nerve was present. In the absence of clinical symptoms, the relevance of this variant is most evident in the case of cardiovascular or laryngeal surgeries. With advanced imaging such as CT and MRI, this type of vascular anomaly should be properly identified and described. The variation presented has particular interest to general practitioners, radiologists, and cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons.

A Retroesophageal Right Subclavian Artery as the Last Branch of the Aortic Arch- In Vivo Case Report
Three major arteries normally originate from the aortic arch. Variations of the aortic arch branches are observed in some cases. Rare variation of the aortic arch branches is originated from the retroesophageal right subclavian (RRS) artery as the last branch of the aortic arch. Variation of artery is possibly associated with the variation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. This research p...
متن کاملDysphagia Lusoria: A Case of an Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery and a Bicarotid Trunk
Dysphagia Lusoria is dysphagia secondary to an aberrant right subclavian artery that has a retroesophageal course. Adachi and Williams categorized aortic arch anomalies, showing that the right subclavian artery arising in this fashion (as the final branch of the descending aortic arch) is one of the more common. However, this very rarely coexists with a bicarotid trunk. We present such a case a...
متن کاملArch of aorta with bi-carotid trunk, left subclavian artery, and retroesophageal right subclavian artery.
We report a case of left sided aortic arch with three branches - a bi-carotid trunk, left subclavian, artery and right subclavian artery. The anomalous right subclavian artery presented a retroesophageal course. A right non-recurrent laryngeal nerve was noticed. The embryonic development of this branching pattern is discussed.
متن کاملThe Case Report of Variation in Subclavian Branches
The Subclavian artery is a major branch of the Aorta. In the left the subclavian artery arises from aortic arch, and in the right it arises from the Brachiocephalic trunk This artery passes from the subclavian groove on the first rib and continues as Axillary artery. The Subclavian artery has several branches that supply chest wall, Thyroid gland and cervical region. Several variations about th...
متن کاملAbnormal bisubclavian trunk arising from the aortic arch determined by cadaver dissection of a native dog: A case report
Congenital anomalies of the great thoracic vessels have been reported in 20% of dogs and cats. In some cases, the vascular ring anomalies remain unrecognized throughout the lifetime of an animal. This report describes a case with an unusual vascular ring anomaly (VRA) that was detected during dissection on a cadaver of an approximately two-year-old male native mixed breed dog. No history of the...
